“Hi, Luke!” Andy waved frantically, before brushing his hair out of his face and doing this little dance.
“Did you have a Coke or something before this?” Lucas laughed.
“Nah. Mel did give me some candy corn though. Don’t know why she has candy corn in December, though,” Andy grinned.
“You’re insane, A.”
“But you love me regardless, right?”
“So…” Andy paused.
“I’ll be home in two days,” Lucas said quietly.
“Good. I really miss you, Luke,” Andy sighed. “We’re going out to dinner as soon as you get home, okay?”
“Fine with me,” Lucas smiled.
A silence fell between the two boys, and it was neither awkward, nor unwanted. It said what they needed to say, but couldn’t.
I really, really miss you. Please never leave me again.
Next time you’re coming with me.
“Your flight gets in at 5:38, right?” Andy asked.
“Yeah,” the other boy confirmed.
“Well, I’ll pick you up, then we’ll head to John’s. You need to have some good pizza,” Andy chuckled softly.
“I love you, Andrew,” Lucas said.
“I love you too, Lucas. Have a safe trip home.”
